Petrol averaged €1.737 a litre over the 52 Mondays of 2025, and diesel €1.707. Between January and December the petrol price ended 1.7 cent lower. On a year-on-year basis the petrol average was −1.2 cent compared with 2024; diesel was +0.7 cent.

Between its low of €1.688, recorded on 16 Jun, and its high of €1.812 on 10 Feb, petrol moved through 12.4 cent during the year. Diesel cost 3.0 cent a litre cheaper than petrol on average over the year. The fiscal part of the average petrol litre in 2025 was 59.8%, worth about 103.9 cent. Green diesel ran from €0.932 to €1.033 during 2025, with an average of €0.975.

Month by month, the high point for petrol was February (€1.809 on average) and the low point June (€1.693).

From one Monday to the next, petrol gained in 22 cases and lost in 27; 3 times the average repeated itself.

Against an EU petrol average of €1.632 for 2025, the Irish figure was 10.5 cent higher.

Revenue set new rates once in the course of 2025: from 8 Oct, €706.14 on petrol and €615.76 on diesel per 1,000 litres.

The October 2025 Budget raised the carbon tax on petrol and diesel to €71 a tonne from 8 October, the rate still in force.

According to the CSO's monthly collection, petrol went from €1.781 to €1.756 between January and December.
