Ireland's fuel bill in 2010A rebound of almost twenty cent.

The ledger for 2010: 49 Mondays, a petrol average of €1.300, a diesel average of €1.219. Measured end to end, 2010 left petrol 12.7 cent higher. Relative to 2009, a litre of petrol cost +19.5 cent on average and a litre of diesel +19.7 cent.

The range for petrol was 15.0 cent: from €1.190 on 4 Jan up to €1.340 on 7 Jun. On the yearly means, diesel came out 8.1 cent a litre cheaper than petrol. About 60.8% of the average petrol price that year went in tax, near enough 79.1 cent per litre. The rebated fuel used on farms averaged €0.834, with a low of €0.722 and a high of €0.918.

The monthly averages for petrol peaked in June (€1.337) and bottomed out in January (€1.217), a spread of 11.9 cent.

The petrol price went up in 7 weeks and down in 4; in 38 it did not move.

Europe-wide, petrol averaged €1.331 in 2010; Ireland sat 3.0 cent lower relative to that.

Mineral Oil Tax on road fuel was revised once in 2010: from 8 Dec, €576.22 on petrol and €465.70 on diesel per 1,000 litres.

The carbon tax was extended to marked gas oil from 1 May 2010, and on 8 December 2010 Revenue raised the non-carbon excise on petrol and diesel.
