Fuel prices in Ireland in 2005The first year of the weekly record.

In 2005 the Commission recorded 49 weekly prices for Ireland; their average was €1.049 for petrol and €1.032 for diesel. Between January and December the petrol price ended 6.7 cent higher.

Between its low of €0.937, recorded on 21 Feb, and its high of €1.188 on 19 Sep, petrol moved through 25.1 cent during the year. In annual terms, diesel stood 1.7 cent a litre cheaper than petrol. For farm and heating users, green diesel came to €0.630 on average, moving between €0.522 and €0.749.

On monthly averages, March offered the cheapest petrol (€0.937) and October the dearest (€1.188).

Petrol's weekly record shows 6 upward moves, 5 downward ones and 37 weeks without change.

With the Union as a whole averaging €1.165 for petrol in 2005, Ireland came out 11.7 cent lower.

The duty figures for 2005 come from the Commission's excise history: €442.68 per 1,000 litres of petrol and €368.06 of diesel by December.
