Petrol and diesel prices, 2007A flat year that closed at its high.

The year 2007 began with petrol at €1.034 and closed at €1.187; over its 49 weekly readings the average was €1.121, while diesel averaged €1.083. By the final week petrol stood 15.3 cent higher than in the first. Petrol's annual mean ended +0.2 cent on 2006, diesel's −1.2 cent.

The petrol high of €1.187 came on 19 Nov; the low of €1.016 on 26 Feb. Diesel's extremes were €1.012 and €1.181. Diesel cost 3.7 cent a litre cheaper than petrol on average over the year. Green diesel ran from €0.619 to €0.831 during 2007, with an average of €0.710.

A motorist filling up in March paid €1.016 a litre on average for petrol, against €1.187 in December, the dearest month.

From one Monday to the next, petrol gained in 6 cases and lost in 5; 38 times the average repeated itself.

Ireland's petrol average ran 11.5 cent lower against the 2007 EU mean of €1.236.

The Commission's records put year-end duty in 2007 at €442.68 per 1,000 litres for petrol and €368.06 for diesel; carbon tax did not yet exist.
