Across 2015 the weekly average for petrol came to €1.369 and for diesel to €1.259, measured on 49 Monday readings. Between January and December the petrol price ended 0.0 cent lower. On a year-on-year basis the petrol average was −16.1 cent compared with 2014; diesel was −19.9 cent.

Between its low of €1.259, recorded on 26 Jan, and its high of €1.479 on 6 Jul, petrol moved through 22.0 cent during the year. On average through 2015, diesel was 11.0 cent a litre cheaper than petrol. Excise, carbon tax where it applied, NORA and VAT came to 63.2% of the average petrol price in 2015, about 86.5 cent. The heating gas oil series, which in Ireland means green diesel, averaged €0.679; its extremes were €0.564 and €0.746.

July was the most expensive month for petrol, averaging €1.454; January was the cheapest, at €1.289.

The ledger of weekly changes reads 12 up, 14 down and 23 level for petrol.

Ireland's petrol average ran 2.8 cent lower against the 2015 EU mean of €1.397.

Revenue left the rates alone in 2015, at €587.71 per 1,000 litres for petrol and €479.02 for diesel.

On the CSO's monthly series, petrol moved from €1.297 at the start of the year to €1.302 by December.
